Prom Night at Small Hope Bay!!  

The graduates of Central Andros High came to Small Hope Monday night to hold their prom and celebrate their graduation.

Guests of Small Hope were treated to a fashion show showcasing the beautiful Androsia gowns and suits worn by the students. It was a great night filled with food, fun, music and of course dancing!!

The place itself is amazing but what adds even more is THE STAFF!!! 

I can’t begin to say enough about them. They are all so friendly and multi-talented, extremely nice young people to help you enjoy your stay at Small Hope.

We mostly snorkeled, relaxed, ate very well, went to Captain Bills Blue Hole and played cribbage!! 

Did a lot of hammocking as well!

Fantastic reefs, with great visibility, teeming with fish of all colors. From the divers we talked to they all said the dives were fantastic! You must do the Shark Emporium Dive or snorkel as I did a memorable experience to be sure!

Kudos to Jeff for offering the opportunity to enjoy Small Hope Bay Lodge, for being such a friendly, gracious host!!

Thanks to all Jeff, Nicky, Mel, Loren, Aidan, Leyna, Antonio, Joe, Bhurna, Austin, Abba, Dennis And thanks to Renaundo and ALL of his kitchen staff for the great meals!

A Big Congratulations!

Congrats to our return visitor, Dena!
On Saturday, Dec. 18th she was a lucky winner in a promotion to mark the 5 millionth visitor to The Bahamas for the year 2010. Her name was entered with other visitors from around the Bahamas Islands.


Dena was given a voucher for Androsia and a Small Hope Bay Lodge voucher to go towards her stay with us.

Here at Small Hope we offer all guest the chance to experenice the Androsia Batik factory. Where you can have a lesson, a tour around the warehouse were all the Androsia Batik is made. We offer this tour 3 times a week in the afternoon.

Family Holiday Small Hope Bay Lodge Andros Island Bahamas

Just this past month we have been fortunate enough to meet some great families. Here are some words from  Elizabeth Luce about her stay here with her family...............

Our family of four (children 12 & 10) visited Small Hope Bay Lodge for a week. Every day was full of wonderful adventure. Each of us found favourite activities, for Clara (10) it was the Androsia Batik Factory and the chance to make her own fabric, discover scuba diving and her friend se met. She also loved the resident dogs, collecting coconuts and racing hermit crabs. 

Our son Jackson (12) was an all round participant in the wonders of Small Hope. He learned how to scuba dive and went on two 40' dives, caught and tamed lizards!, played ping pong tournaments, best of all for Jackson was fishing. On a guided trip he caught his first bonefish and many other fish. He ventured to the mangroves with a generous guest who taught and guided our over joyed young fisherman.

 

After 14 years hiatus my husband and I both went diving again. The calm easy going dive masters made it so easy to get back in the water. We enjoyed the lovely conversation with staff and guests. As an amateur photographer I had fun taking pictures of the nature. On a walk through the mangroves there were birds and landscape like none other I've seen before. 

We took a family bike trip to Captain Bills Inland Blue Hole and had a blast jumping off the the platform.

                                                  

The most amazing thing about Small Hope Bay Lodge, no matter the amazing activities, is the generous, open, personal people who live and work here. We haven't even left yet and the children are asking when can we come back! And I couldn't agree more.

Family Relaxation on Andros Island

When Rob and Donna brought their daughters, Braelyn and Ryan, down to Small Hope Bay Lodge, they had one thing on their minds -- total relaxation. Rob did some diving and Donna did some biking (like to the Androsia batik factory) but Braelyn, who just graduated college, and Ryan, a college student, applied themselves fully to doing absolutely nothing! They relaxed on the beach, soaked up some sun and played with Small Hope pooches.

Androsia's debut at Miss Universe 2009

The 2009 Miss Universe was held this year at Atlantis, Paradise
Island in the Bahamas. Androsia Batik Fabric was used during the August 12 and August 23rd fashion show and our classic Androsia Pareos were worn during the August 23rd swimsuit fashion show.
We are so proud to see our fabric, that first started as an experiment in 1973 with wax and dye, to turn into what is now referred to as “The National Fabric of the Bahamas”, was featured in more than two thirds of the Miss Universe Competition. Androsia Fabric is made on Andros Island, which first started in 1973 by Dick Birch and his wife, Rosie. The first six years the Androsia fabric was made at Small Hope Bay Lodge, the diving resort on Andros, which Dick opened and operated at the time. In 1979, Androsia Batik Factory and Androsia Outlet were opened in Andros Town.
All Androsia Fabric is hand-stamped, hand-dyed and hand-sewn, and is really one of a kind. Watch the process for yourself on our YouTube Channel. Miss Universe 2009 in Bahamas

On June 9th 2009, Small Hope Bay Lodge had the pleasure of hosting Dayana Mendoza, Miss Venezuela and winner of Miss Universe 2008. Dayana was here to promote the 2009 Miss Universe competition that was held earlier this August in Nassau.
Dayana spent the morning with Small Hope’s staff, Mike and Danielle, who took her on her first dive ever. Dayana could not have been more thrilled after her dive at Central Park, a dive signature to Small Hope Bay Lodge.
After she dried off, Dayana visited The Androsia Factory, learning a how the unique fabric is individually stamped, dyed and sewed. Dayana made her own personal fabric, signing her name in wax and stamping with her favorite design. She then went shopping in the outlet boutique located beside the factory where she took some time shopping through our various designs, colours and outfits!
You may have seen the Androsia fabric featured in the 2009 Miss Universe competition this August. The fashion show included many Adrosia Batik fabrics, to see some of the contestants wearing the national fabric of the Bahamas click here.

The Young Family Returns

The Youngs, Robert, Kathy, Robbie and Kylie, have been visiting us for 12 years. The Small Hope Bay family welcomed them back during their most recent visit here, where Robby earned his certification as an advanced diver! The family enjoyed diving, snorkeling and visiting the Androsia Batik, where Robert keeps his tradition of buying a new shirt every year and wearing it to work back in the states! Bahamas own Androsia Batik Factory goes global with a new online ordering system

In 1973 the Androsia Batik Factory was started by the Birch Family. Its goal was to employ local Androsians and promote the beauty of the Bahamas through the art of batik. Androsia is still fulfilling that original dream. Androsia Batik is now not only available in stores in the Bahamas, but via an online shopping system from their website www.androsia.com. For the new season Androsia has just launched fresh colours and designs so if you that are missing the feeling of Andros Island take a look at the 150 batik fabric, garments, and accessories in 25 colours and designs on their online shopping cart system.

In case you didn't know, the cute little girl on Small Hope's beach is Tracy and Skeebo's daughter, Mia. Tracy, Skeebo, Mia, Mariah, and Harrington have just moved to Tracy's hometown of Lowell, Massachusetts. Tracy is working part-time for Small Hope assisting with our Bookeeping and Marketing efforts.
